Almost Gone but Never Forgotten

Almost Gone but Never Forgotten

The sun rose on this last morning of 2020 just as it has every other day of the year. It was beautiful, bold and as close to perfect as I could have hoped for... a glorious orange sphere rising out of a rolling sea.

As I sat on the beach watching the waves crash against the sand, I couldn’t help but think how blessed I’ve been to live through this “unique” year.

We’ve endured disappointment, but our family has also experienced adventure and great joy.

Mere months after they had to postpone their wedding,  we traveled with our oldest son and his fiancée halfway across the country to help them relocate and begin their new life in Florida.  They’ve settled in and are flourishing in their careers and planning a new wedding day to take place in the coming year.

Back in Iowa, our youngest son finished school and promptly slipped into adulting mode with his girlfriend as they started their careers and moved into a new house. As of last night, they will be planning a wedding as well!

Jeff and I have travelled thousands of miles exploring new cities as much as we could... often taking in historic landmarks from the sanitary safety of our car or high-floor hotel window. We learned that’s he should drive, I should navigate and we’re going to be just fine entering our golden years together.

Through it all we’ve remained healthy, happy and blessed that our family has been merely inconvenienced by the pandemic. We’ve mourned lack of social experiences and “the regular things” in life, but we have not suffered like so many others.

My heart hurts for those who have experienced loss... and I pray that 2021 brings moments of peace and healing.

May you have a joyous New Year!

Be happy,

Kim
